    Greco-Persian wars

    After Iona rebelled against the Persian, asked for help to the Greek's and the Persian wanted to crush the Greek empire. The first invasion was in 492-490 BC the Greeks won with the battle of Marathon. The second invasion in 480 BC led by Xerxes finished by the victory of the Persians in the battle of Thermopylae . But the Greeks won in the battle of Salamis.
    In 478 BC, Athena created the Deliah League (a voluntary militar and political alliance). They had to pay the Phoros to the Greeks.

    Besides the others conditions to be a athenian citizen (such as: be free (non slave), to be over 18 and have accomplished your ephebate or ephebic oath (obtained after two years of military, deme registration)) in 451 you needed both of your parents to be athenian. This was only accomplished by 15 to 20 % of the total population.
