First phone call
The first phone call was made by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. Bell called his assistant, Thomas Watson. The first words transmitted were "Mr Watson, come here. I want to see you." -
Candlestick phone
Candlestick telephones featured a mouthpiece (transmitter) mounted at the top of the stand, and a receiver (earphone) that was held by the user to the ear during a call. The main producers of these telephones were Western Electric, Automatic Electric Co., Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Company, and Stromberg-Carlson. -
Motorola
Motorola was the first company to produce a handheld mobile phone. On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper made the first mobile telephone call from handheld subscriber equipment, placing a call to Dr Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs, his rival. The prototype offered a talk time of just 30 minutes and took 10 hours to re-charge. -
