Japan turned their attention to Philippines. American and Filipino forces took up a defensive act in Bataan and the Philippines government moved to the island of Corregidor. Three months later Japan took over Bataan peninsula and Corriger as well on the next month. -

The end of the Battle of Guadalcanal
After six months, the battle finally ended. The Japanese lost more than 24,000 soldiers of 36,000. Japan had left what they called "the Island of Death" (picture from textbook)
