Japan was worried that the US was going to stop them from conquering countries, so they attack the US navy ships to stop them for attacking them. The next day the US joined the Allies and the attack had the opposite effect they thought it would have. -

The Allies offered japan a surrender option that threatened with "prompt and utter deconstruction" if they refused, when it was clear the weren't going to win, but in late July they rejected this option and continued to fight until the bitter end. -

The Manhattan project launched it's first successful test launch of a plutonium bomb at the trinity test site in Alamogordo, Mexico -
Atomic bomb are dropped on Hiroshima
An american B-29 bomber dropped the worlds first atomic bomb over Hiroshima. Killed 90% of city, over 80,000 people. Tens of thousands more later died of radiation.

Cancer increases
The number of cancer cases increased exponentially because of the radiation from the bombs -
Japan is asked to surrender
The US asked the Japanese to surrender after the bombing of Hiroshima but when they denied the bomb over Nagasaki was deployed. -
Second bomb deployed
A second atomic bomb was released on Nagasaki three days later killing an estimated 40,000 people. -
Aftermath
In Hiroshima 90 percent of physicians and nurses were killed or injured; 42 of 45 hospitals were rendered non-functional, and 70 percent of victims had combined injuries. In Hiroshima and Nagasaki, most victims died without any care to ease their suffering. Some of those who entered the cities after the bombings to provide assistance also died from the radiation. -
Firestorm
Because of the firestorm caused by the bomb. Instead of normal fire-raiding where hollow shells were left, Everything in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were completely incarcerated. -

The pace of reconstruction was slow, as the city was estimated to require some 2 billion yen to rebuild, and the city's reconstruction budget in 1947 was only 56 million yen. This is the bomb (Fat Man) dropped on Nagasaki.
