  • Sanchi Oil Tank Collision

    Sanchi Oil Tank Collision
    An Iranian owned tanker sailing from Iran to South Korea collided with a Hong Kong cargo ship off of Shanghai. The ship caught fire and was burning and drifting until it finally sank on the 14th. None of the Sanchi’s crew members died resulting in 32 deaths. The crew of the Hong Kong ship was rescued and brought to China and estimated financial damages amount to $110 million.
  • Hualien Earthquake

    Hualien Earthquake
    A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan. It was on the coastline near Hualien that got attacked the most. It’s maximum felt intensity was VIII (severe) on the Mercalli intensity scale. 17 deaths were reported and 285 injuries were reported. The earthquake occurred on the second anniversary of the 2016 Taiwan earthquake which killed 117 people.
  • Sukma Attack

    Sukma Attack
    Nine central reserve police force personnel were killed and six others were wounded after Maoists blew up a mine-protected vehicle in Chhattisgarh, India. The attack came after Indian security people killed 10 alleged Naxalites (India’s communist political group) 11 days prior. Seven people were arrested with suspicion of their involvement with the attack.

    Korean Leaders Pledge Peace
    The leaders of the two Koreas agreed to put an end to a decades-long war and to work towards banning nuclear weapons in the Korean peninsula. Mr Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae In signed the document that promises to reshape Korean history; "(We) solemnly declare before the 80 million Korean people and the whole world that there will be no more war on the Korean peninsula and thus a new era of peace has begun," their declaration said.

    Temperatures rose to 111 degrees killing 65 people in 3 days. The situation was exacerbated by power outages citywide and ongoing fasting for the holy month of Ramadan, during which many Muslims abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours."With the extremity of these issues and no initiative to address them, in 15 years this city won't be livable."

    South Korea Elections
    The seventh local elections were held in South Korea. The elections were to fill the open seats in the National Assembly, and were a victory for the Democratic Party of Korea.

    Typhoon Prapiroon
    Typhoon Prapiroon brought heavy rain and floods to southwestern Japan. Deadly floods were the result of a ten-day rainfall, adding up to 72 inches of rain in some areas (Shikoku). The rain caused flash flooding and landslides. At least 225 people died from mudslides, landslides and being trapped in homes or cars.

    Assassination of Ismail Ozden
    Ismail Ozden, a senior Kurdish Nationalist leader, was assassinated by a cross-border airstrike of the Turkish armed forces. He was a part of the most wanted terrorist list of the Turkish government and was assassinated in Northwestern Iraq.

    On September 19 2018, began to monitor a huge storm cloud that was forming over Japan. Four people have been killed in a powerful typhoon that battered Japan. More than 120 people were injured in the powerful storm.

    Pope Francis received an invitation to visit North Korea and the pontiff indicated that he would consider making what would be a landmark trip, according to South Korean officials.
  • Suicide Bombing in Pakistan

    Suicide Bombing in Pakistan
    On November 23, 2018, there was a suicide bombing in Kalaya, Orakzai District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. 33 people were killed and 56 injured. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant took responsibility for the bombing.
  • Gas Explosion in Russia

    Gas Explosion in Russia
    On December 31, 2018, an apartment block in Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia, collapsed from what was believed to be a gas explosion. The event killed 39 and injured 17. The collapse of the 10 story building took place on the 7th staircase, destroying 48 units that housed approximately 110 people. It is believed that 95 of these 110 residents were in the building at the time of the collapse.
