General Howe wanted to seize the American capitol that is Philadelphia. The Continental Congress left the city while the troops try to block the redcoats and failed, General Howe took over and lived there with the Loyalists. -
Winter of 1777-1778
American soldiers were low on food and shelter while the british were warm. They didnt think it would take this long in Vallay Forge. -
Brits surrender in Saratoga
American troops surrounded Burgoyne, Saratoga. The British surrendered and it changed their war strategy. After this the Brits kept their troops on the coast line. -
Alliance with the French
The French signed a treaty recognizing American Independence. In the terms the French are not allowed to make peace with the British unless they recognize American Independence aswell. -
New technique
With the help of Friedrich von Steuben the Continental Army was becoming and effective fighting force. -

The British changed their military strategy and traveled south to get Loyalists help . -

The troops are finally paid in gold coins. -

The brits took over Georgia again and a royal governor commanded again. -

Marquis de Lafayette joined Washington’s crew and led a command in Virginia -

The redcoats advanced with the lead of Cornwallis. They were helped by the slaves of the Patriots. -

The British captured Charles Town and captured 5,500 Americans. -

6,000 bluecoats (French Army) landed in Newport, Rhode Island after the British had left. -

Smashed American forces in South Carolina. -
Patriots get revenge
After South Carolina they had created forts across the state but then the Patriots attacked and cut out commission. This continued and the redcoats retreated. -

General Henry Clinton took Howes place and sailed with 8,500 men south along with General Charles Cornwallis -
The British should think twice
The British thought they had the upper hands when the say the Patriots where outnumbered they attacked but they didn’t give up and made the Redcoats surrender. -

Greene made the British weak after an attempt attack so he wrote a letter asking Lafayette for help. -

The congress appointed Robert Morris superintendent of finance. Him and his assistant, Haym Salomon raised money for the Continental Army. -
