Arnold Cook born
Arnold Cook (who inspired The Australian Guide dogs association) was born on the 5th of May in Narrogin. Arnold was diagnosed with the rare disease Retinitis Pigmentosa at the age of 15, and by the time he was 18 he was completely blind. Arnold got his guide dog (Dreana) from the United Kingdom and bought her back to Western Australia. It was there where he inspired the very first Guide dogs association. -

Arnold Cook graduates from the University of Western Australia
Arnold studied Bachelor of Arts at the University of Western Australia, majoring in Economics. He graduated with first class honors in 1947. -
Arnold returns!
Arnold brings his guide dog, Dreena, back to Western Australia. -
Guide dogs Perth formed
The guide dogs association was formed when Dr Arnold Cook came to back to Western Australia with his guide dog, Dreena. Many other blind Western Australian’s wanted a dog themselves. The first English trainer from the UK and the first dog to be trained was a Kelpie/ Border collie cross who was owned by blind Miss Elsie. They travelled all over Australia to promote the Guide Dogs Association. -
Guide dogs Perth expands into Victoria
With the Perth association becoming more and more popular, it expanded into Victoria, ultimately becoming Guide Dogs Australia. -
First Guide dog school established
Arnold helps set up the first guide dog school in Australia in Perth as part of the local Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. -
Gone... Again
Arnold travlles to the USA -

Arnold Cook dies
Arnold died of a heart attack at his home in Kardinya in 1981. -
Statue placed at Ivy Watson playground
Arnold’s contribution to society was honored by the making of a bronze statue of him with his guide dog Dreena, and placing it at the entrance to the Ivy Watson Playground in Kings Park.
