  • George Washington becomes president

    In 1789, George Washington became president. Washington served as a general and commander-in-chief of the colonial armies. After the American Revolution, he was chosen as the president to lead America.
  • French Revolution

    During this time, citizens of the French colonies would raze and redesign the town they lived in. The people took over the monarchy and the government. This war lasted 10 years.
  • Thomas Jefferson becomes the third U.S President

    Thomas Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence. He was a spokesman on the Democracy. He also had a Federal Constitution.
  • Napoleon forces Spain to sign the secret treaty

    Spain signed a treaty with France. When that happened, they gave back the Louisiana Territory. After that, the US bought it off the French.
  • Lewis and Clark explore the northern Louisiana Purchase

    After the Louisiana Purchase was bought, President Jefferson sent explorers to investigate it. He chose Lewis and Lewis chose Clark to help him explore.
  • Freeman and Custis explore the Red River

    This took place in the southwest. There were multiple explorations going on. This was also know as the Red River Exploration.
  • Dunbar and Hunter Explore the Quachiata River and Hot Springs

    President Jefferson explore the area of Arkansas. This occurred around the Hot Springs area. They took notes and reported back to the president.
  • New Madrid earthquake

    This earthquake was a 7.9 magnitude. It had a 7.4 aftershock on the same day! Today, New Madrid is known as Missouri.
  • War of 1812

    This war lasted for 3 years. The was between the United States and the United Kingdom. The UK got some hostile Native American tribe to fight with them.
  • Fort Smith is Established

    Fort Smith was named after General Thomas Smith. At first, it was a military base. It is at the junction of the Arkansas river and the Poteau.
  • Thomas Nut-tall Explorers Arkansas

    Two people went to explore the rivers. They had to return to Fort Smith. During this time, Fort Smith was a base, not a city.
  • Congress approves the Missouri Compromise

    Missouri was declared as a slave state. This was also when Maine was declared a free state. This compromise failed.
  • The territory of Arkansas is established

    Arkansas was established in June. The nickname to the state it the Natural State. Arkansas was once owned buy the Louisiana Territory.
