Cendrillon/ The Little Glass Slipper
This version of Cinderella was published in 1697 by Charles Perrault. The text within the book is written in French, which shows that the story has deep roots in Europe. The way this version differs from the basic Cinderella story is by there being two stepsisters, she was referred to as "cinderwitch", and she doesn't have friends that are rats. These small differences are what make it unique, however, they are small details that got changed within the Disney Cinderella story. -
Yeh-Shen by Tuan Ch’eng-shih
This story is titled Yeh-Shen and it’s by Tuan Ch’eng-shih. The differences seen in this story are that Yeh-Shen's friends are fish in a nearby river, her "fairy godmother" was an old man and the story ends with her stepmother and stepsisters getting stoned to death by the villagers. Based off of how the author wrote this story compared to the Disney Cinderella, it shows how different Chinese culture is from American culture. Although, the author still included Yeh-Shens loss of a loving family. -
First Filmed-Based Cinderella
This was the first filmed based Cinderella and it was directed by Georges Méliès. This film seemed more like a stop-motion film and was only 6 minutes long. The film seemed like it followed the Cendrillon story fairly well. Although, we never got close ups of the characters, and it was a wordless film with only music over the scenes. So, if I had no prior knowledge of the story I might have been lost to what I was watching.

Disney's Cinderella
When people in this age think of Cinderella, this is the first story that comes to mind. When researching other Cinderella stories, I'm basing what I read off of this movie. In this story Cinderella's dad dies, she has a fairy godmother, and she has three stepsisters. This movie has the happy ever after that is sought after within fairy tails. This film is cartoon drawn and flows a lot better than the first filmed Cinderella story in 1899. -
Ella Enchanted
In this 2004 movie, we see a very modified version of the Cinderella story. In this story "Ella" has a fairy godmother and an evil stepmother, but she has a spell bestowed on her that she has to break. So, this story is all about her adventure to break her spell and return back to a normal girl. This story shows how as a population we want to see different versions of stories that keep us interested and guessing what happens next.
