    Plan of Versailles
The palace of Versailles, where Louis XIV lived, can be observed at the center of the engraving, as all lines of the streets and gardens converge in its direction. The gardens near Versailles are organized in strict geometric patterns and the ones farther away are more natural and less groomed. This is an example of King Louis XIV’s gaze on his kingdom. It also shows the centralization of power around one ruler, just like all the power of France is centralized around Versailles.
