Protests being in Tunisia after a man by the name of Mohammed Bouaziz set himself on fire. The protests were a result of an uprising against former Tunisia leader Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. He is then overrulled on January 14, 2016. -

In January of 2011, the protests have spread into the countries of Oman, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, and Syria. -
Protests in Egypt
A protest breaks out in Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt against former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. As time goes on, the Tahrir Square becomes a symbol for the ongoing Egyptian demonstrations. -
Protest Reach Morocco

Battle of Tripoli
The Battle of Tripoli takes place in Libya between August 20th and August 28th. The battle happened between loyalists of Muammar Gaddafi and the National Transitional Council. Gaddafi was the former Prime Minister of Libya. At the end, Rebel forces gained control of the city and overthrew Gaddafi. -

The Syrian rebels capture the city of Raqqa in Syria. Raqqa was the first major city to fall to the Rebels. -

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) takes control of the city of Raqqa in Syria. Once they have control, the beheading of an American journalist, James Foley takes place. -

The United States along with five Arab countries, launched air strikes against ISIS in Syria. -
Former Egyptian President is Sentenced to Death
Former Egyptian President, Mohammed Morsi, is sentenced to death after people who were taken prisoner by the Muslim Brotherbood excaped. Morsi was arrested for the toture of those taken prisoner during his time as President (2012-2013). -
Christian Monastery Destroyed
ISIS destroyed St. Elijah in Mosul, the oldest Christian monastery in Iraq.
