War for Israel Independence
The United Nations votes to partion Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states. In May 1948 Israel declared itself an independent counrty. Arab staes refused to reconize the new nation, and a series of wars prevailed. -
Suez Crisis
The 120 mile Suez Cannel connected the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea which took 10 years to build and was open on 1869 made by Frenvhman Ferdinand de Lesseps. The conflict began when Egytpian president Gamal Abdel Nasser annocced the nationalization of the Suez Cannel. -
Six-day War
Israel launched air strikes against Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, destroying most of their airplanes on ground. Israeli ground troops then moved in a rapidly defeated Arab forces. In this war, Israel took control of the Golan Hieghts, Sinai Penisula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Taking pace fron June 5-10 1967. -
Yom Kippur War
The Yom Kippur War lasting 18 days began on October 6 and ended on the 24, hoping to win back there territory back Egypt and Syria launched the Yom Kippur War, a surpise attack against Israel in 1973. -
Camp David Accords
Egyptian president Anwar Sadat made a momentous declaration Egypt wanted peace with Israel. To help facilitate this historic peace, U.S president Jimmy Carter invited Sadat and Israeli prime minister Manachem Begin to Camp David, the presidental retreat in Maryland. The treaty ende 30 years of hostility between Egypt and Israel.
