1948 War
Isreal declared their indepence. Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq attacked Israel. Israel gained land. Egpyt gained the Gaza Strip and Jordan gained the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Jews became refugees. -
Settlement Construction Begins
The Ilsraeli government approved the building of settlements in the Sinai, Gaza, and West Bank. Israeli settlements where built in Jewish towns. Built on land captured in 1967. In 1967 there were 3,200 West Bank settlers. Now there is roughly 300,000 West Bank settlers. -
Six Day War
Egypt blockaded Israel. Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq moved troops to Israel's borders and made threatening statements. Israel launched a strike. Israel captured West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, Golan Heights from Syria, and Gaza Strip and all of the Sinia Peninsula from Egypt. Palestinians and Jews became refugees. -
Attrition Battles
Attrition Battles ended August 7 1970 Israel gained land from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Israel stated it was open to returning other territories in exchange for peace and recognation. -
Yom Kippur War
War ended on October 26 1973 Egypt/ Syria attacked Israel on Yom Kippur, the holliest holiday in the Jewish Year. The U.S. convinced Israel to withdraw. Israel retained the terrortories captured in 1967. Did not keep additional land.
