  • Albany Congress

    Purpose was to get Iroquois on the side of the British
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Benjamin Franklin's plan for the colonies to "join or die"; was rejected by both Britain and the Colonists
  • 7 Years War 1754-1763

    French and Indian war was caused by English encroachment onto French lands.
    Indians sided with the French.
    Great Britain and the colonists won.
  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    essentially removes France from North America
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    Native American rebellion led by Chief Pontiac in the Ohio Valley Region.
  • Proclamation Line of 1763

    Response to Pontiac's rebellion; stated that colonists could not go past the Appalachian Mountains
  • Stamp Act

    Tax on 50 commonly used goods like newspapers, playing cards, etc. Caused anger among the colonists, they created Stamp Act Congress which worked on colonial boycotts of stamp products.
  • Townshend Acts

    Taxes on tea, lead, glass, and paint
  • Tea Act

    Taxed tea, led to 'no taxation without representation'
  • Common Sense

    Written by Thomas Paine, urged America to break away from Britain.
  • Northwest Land Ordinance of 1787

    Provided a process for admitting new states; pop. had to be at least 60,000; banned slavery in the NW territory
