Haitian Revolution
Caused racial instability in the US and fear of problems with trading; Thomas Jefferson feared it would cause an upheaval against slavery in the US. -
Orders in Council
England closed European ports under French control to foreign shipping in order to hurt the French but it also hurts us. The French in response ordered the seizure of all merchant ships that entered British ports. This lead to the Chesapeake affair -
Chesapeake Affair
U.S refused to give back 4 British deserters, in response British began attacking the Chesapeake (a ship). -
Embargo Act
Stopped all trading between the U.S and other nations. It hurt the economy, especially merchants and people had livelihoods that depended on trade, and were angered at this act. -
Macon's Bill No. 2
Reopened trade but had a clause which was if Britain and France repealed commercial restriction (do something stupid) the U.S would go back to the Embargo act. -
Non Intercourse Act
The embargo act was repealed and the nonintercourse act was put in place. Opened up trade with everyone except for Britain and France. -
Fletcher Vs. Peck
Land speculators bribed legislators to approve a land, the public wanted their land back. -
Battle of Tippecanoe
Near modern-day Lafayette, Indiana.Tenskwatawa requested a ceasefire, but Harrison doubted that it would remain like this, shots were fired from Ten.’s side, multiple charges by Indians, lasted roughly 2 hours. -

Ended the federalist's party when they tried with secession from the U.S. -
Treaty of Ghent
Peace treaty that ended the war of 1812 b/w the Americans and the Brits. -
Tallmadge Amendment
Attempt to have no more slaves to be brought into Missouri and provide emancipation of the children. -
Panic of 1819
Largely the fault of the Second Bank of the U.S since it did not give out as much loans as before (tightened credit in an effort to control inflammation). There were large increases in unemployment, bank ruptcies and imprisonment for debt. -
Adams Onis Treaty
Transcontinental treaty that purchased Florida from Spain. -
Dartmouth College Vs. Woodward
New Hampshire wanted to make private college Dartmouth into a state university. They couldn't because the Supreme Court found it unconstitutional for a state court to interfere a private contract. -
McCulloch Vs. Maryland
Maryland wanted to tax bank notes, the Supreme Court stated that a state cannot tax a national bank. This enlarges the federal power. -
Missouri Compromise
Admit Missouri as a slave state but in order to be equal they took a piece of Massachusetts and called it Maine (free state). This established the border of Missouri as the northernmost point in which slavery was legal. -
Land Act
Authorized buyers to purchase 80 acres of land for a minimum of $1.25 per acre in cash. -
Cohens Vs. Virginia
Cohens was found guilty of selling illegal tickets in Virginia but the Supreme Court had a say in it and demonstrated that at the end the Supreme Court trumps over the state cour. -
Monroe Doctrine
Created by James Monroe (Not really) stated that Europe could no longer colonize in the Americas and if any of them tried then the U.S would have to interefere. -
Russo American Treaty
This was a treaty between Russia and the United States that set the Southern border of the Russian holdings in the U.S. -
Gibbons Vs. Ogden
New York is trying to grant monopoly on waterborne trade b/w NY and NJ, supreme court calls them out because, only congress can control the interstate commerce of states.
