    Columbus arrives in America

    Columbus wanted to go westward to Asia but instead he arrived in America and he was funded by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. It was significant because it let the European countries know that there was another land mass that was filled with riches. It also later led to the decline of the Native Americans.
  • Jamestown founded

    Jamestown was funded by the Virginia Company of London. It was located on the James River. The creation of Jamestown was one of the first series of cultural encounters that helped create the nation. It was the first permanent English settlement.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Colonists believed that the government was not doing enough to stop Native American attacks on colonial settlers, so Nathaniel Bacon led a rebellion against Governor William Berkley.It was the first rebellion in the American colonies. It made the upper class believe that they should use slaves instead of indentured servants to stop rebellions.

    It was also known as the seven years’ war. It was a war between Britain and France and they fought for the control of North America. They also had native allies. It led to the taxation to the colonies to pay for the debt. It also drove France out of America and gave Britain the Ohio territory.

    It was a tax on sugar that was used to produce money.
    The sugar act was used to raise money for Parliament’s treasury. It made British sugar less expensive and mad the Americans angry because other countries wanted the cheaper price.
  • Stamp Act

    It was a tax on paper goods.The Americans believed that the tax was unfair because they were the only ones being taxed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    It was fight on the street and a couple colonists were killed. It was significant because it was a critical event that led the colonies to revolt against Britain.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Colonists threw tea into the harbor to protest the tea tax.It showed how the colonists were willing to fight for their country and how they were motivated to stand up for themselves
  • Declaration of Independence

    It is a document adopted by the Continental Congress. It stated that they were thirteen newly independent states.It is significant because it outlines the rules or ideals of the American society.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The Americans surrounded the British forces at Saratoga and they took down their fort. It was the turning point of the Revolutionary war.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    It was between the colonists and the British. The British lost the battle. The Americans got help from the French in order to take down the British. It was the last major battle in the American Revolution. It ended the Revolutionary War.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Rebellion that consisted of farmers that were against state and local enforcement of tax collections and judgment for debt. They were mad that they were being foreclosed. It showed the disunity of the colonies after the war.
  • Ordinance of 1787

    The law created an organized society where a settlement would be six miles square. It created a gird of straight lines and right angles to create equally sized territories. It also outlined the steps for admitting a state into the Union. It was the basis for land policies.

    It is a document that states the supreme law of the United States. It is the foundation and source of the legal authority for the United States. It founded our government and it outlines our rights as citizens.
  • Whiskey Rebellion

    It was a rebellion against the excise tax on whiskey. The tax was created to create revenue.It showed how strong the American government was.
  • Jay Treaty

    It was a treaty signed by Britain that sought to settle the issue between America and Britain.It let American ships trade with both England and France. It helped make the relationships between Britain and America normal.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    They were four bills that resulted from the French Revolution. Federalists thought that “aliens” would side with the French so they passed the alien and sedition acts.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    A large piece of land that Napoleon sold to America. It was debatable about being unconstitutional. It gave U.S. control of the Mississippi river and it led to the Lewis and Clark expedition.

    The non-intercourse act stopped all shipping and trade between the United States and British or French and allowed trade with all other nations. It came with a condition that state that the US. would reopen trade with either countries if they respected America as a country and as a country and as a neutral power in the war. It was a replacement for the Embargo Act. France took the offer but they still abused America.

    It was a peace treaty between America and Britain that ended the War of 1812. It didn't really solve any tensions between Britian and America.
  • Missouri Comprise

    Missouri Comprise
    It was created to calm down the sectional and political tension in America. They wanted an equal division between free and slave. It led to the Parallel 36o 30’ north line, it stated that states in the north would be free (with the exception of Missouri) and states in the south would slave states.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    It was a document that stated that European nations could not colonize lands in America or intervene with states in America. It was created by President James Monroe.It kept America out of foreign affairs.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    It was a slave rebellion led by Nat Turner.
    The rebellion killed many people and it had the highest number of fatalities. The rebellion made people more aware of slaves and they started to worry about slave rebellions. His rebellion intensified the need for Protestant missionaries to convert slaves.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    It was a battle that took place in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It had the largest number of casualties. It is considered the turning point in the Civil War. George Meade's Army of the Potomac defeated Confederate Robert Lee's attacks. It ended Lee's invasion of the North.
