    Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer for the Spanish monarchy. On this date he landed in San Salvador which is less than 400 miles away from present day Florida.

    The Treaty of Todesillas was issued on this date. It was a treaty that diveded newly discovered lands between Spain and Portugal.
  • Jamestown

    This is the date the English begin colonization in America. They choose Jamestown as their settlement
  • New England Colony

    On this date the second english colony was established by John Smith. Many puritains came to this colony.
  • Maryland

    The first grant for Maryland was given to Lord Baltimore. He wanted to make Maryland a safe haven for the catholics of England.
  • Pequot War

    Pequot War
    The Pequot War was a war between the native Americans and the colonists of Massachusetts Bay. Expansion aroused native resistance.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    Bacon's Rebellion was an armed rebellion of colonists led by Nathaniel Bacon in Virginia. The rebellion was against the rule of Governor William Berkeley.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    Hundreds of people were acused of witchcraft in the New England Colonies. 19 colonists were killed becasue of the colonies superstitsions.
  • French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War took place from 1754-1763. It was a war between France and Great Britain. It is also known as the seven years war.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    Pontiac's Rebellion was a war waged by Indians against British rule after the French and Indian War. They were disatisfied by the treatment from the British.
  • Treay of Paris 1763

    The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War in 1763. It was also known as the Peace Treaty of Paris.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was passed by British Parliament to help pay for the debt from the French and Indian War. The colonists were majorly against it.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The colonists were mad about the new tax on imported tea. A group of colonists called the Sons of Liberty dressed as indians and dumped all of the tea in the Boston Harbor
  • First Continental Congress

    The first continental congress met on this date. They met in Philadelphia and they debated over the grievances of the colonies against Great Britain.
  • Start of American Revolution

    The American Revolution was a war between Great Britain and the colonies. The colonies wanted to be independent from England.
  • Declaration of Independence

    On this date the Declaration of Independence was drafted by Ben Franklin, John Hancock, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. It signified the movement for independence.
  • Articles of Confederation

    The Articles of Confederation became effective on this date. They were the basis of the national government during the American Revolution.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion was a series of protests by American farmers against state and local enforcement of tax collections and judgements for debts. It showed the weakness of the Articles of Confederation.

    On this date George Washington was inaugurated as the First President of the United States
  • Constitution

    The Articles of Confederation was replaced by the US Constitution and it went into effect immeadiately. The Constitution was stronger than the Articles of Confederation.

    The election between Adams and Jefferson that ended in a close tie but Jefferson wins in electoral votes.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Jefferson authorized the purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France on this date. It more than doubled the size of the United States.
  • The War of 1812

    It was a war over impressment by the British and the French on America. It was caused from the embargos created by Thomas Jefferson.
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent was the treaty that ended the war of 1812 in 1814. It restored everything to the status quo. America didn't gain or lose anything.
