  • Federalists

    The Creation of the Federalists came with Alexander Hamilton and his economic plan. His plan was to create a national bank for the US and to assume state debt from the war. Assuming state debts would allow for other countries to loan money and see that the US is able to take care of itself. The national bank allowed for the national government to gain more control. Another way for the US to get money to pay off its war debt was the creation of tariffs.

    Federalists

    The federalists believed that the us should move from an agrarian society to a more industrial society. The Federalists also believed that the national government should have more power that the states government.
  • The Creation of the Democratic-Republicans

  • French Revolution

    The French Revolution was the start of the split between Democratic-Republicans and the Federalists. The Federalists were in favor of Britain and the Democratic-Republicans were in favor of France.
  • Election of 1800

    The election of 1800 was the first peaceful transfer of power. It ended with Thomas Jefferson as the winner, but by a very small margin. It was also the election where Jefferson later was quoted saying "We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists." This is when the political parties were finally solidfied and became a part of our government
  • Democratic-Republicans

    Jefferson and Madison were against the idea of the national bank. The reason for the creation of the bank was Alexanders negotiation to move the capital to Virginia, where they were from. Jefferson and Madison were against the idea of assuming state debts because why would one state have to pay for another states debt.
  • War 1812

    The Federalists did not want to fight in the war because of how much they liked Britain. Before the war there were a lot of tensions with Britain. Jefferson tried to pass an embargo act to stop trade with Britain. This ended up stopping all foreign trade and messed up the economy. Instead he made a Non-Intercourse act. This stopped trade with Britain and France. The Democratic-Republicans wanted the war while the Federalists did not want the war.

    The Federalists threatened to leave the union during the war because they did not want to be in the war. During the Hartford Convention the Federalists threatened to leave. This was after the was ended so the people started to discredit the Federalists.
  • The Hartford Convention

    The Federalists ruined their reputation at the Hartford Convention in the year 1815 by threatening to secede and attempting to legalize nullification. Because of these actions, the Federalist party was effectively killed off, and the Democratic-Republicans had started to split
