The Missouri Compromise was a bill proposed by Hnery Clay. The Mexican American War began in 1846 and ended in 1848. The war resulted in Mexico's defeat and the loss of half its territory. The war was the result of the United States annexing Texas which Mexico still claimed. The United States quickly began the occupation of Mexico's territory and capital resulting in a swift end to the war. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
The Treaty of Guadulupe Hidalgo was a peace treaty signed in Mexico City in order to end the Mexican American War. Kansas-Nebraska Act
The Knasas-Nebraska Act was an act which created the new territories of both Kansas and Nebraska. This repealed the Missouri Compromise by allowing whether or not a state is slave or free be decided by the people living there.This event led to Bleeding Kansas. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott V. Sandford was a Surpreme Court decision that allowed slave owners to bring their slaves into western territories by classifying them as property. The Chief justice was Roger Taney with 5/9 judges being from the south. The Lincoln-Douglas debate were a series of senetorial debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. Senetors were elected by state legistlators. and these two canditates were tring to win their vote. John Brown's raid
John Brown's raid was an attack on Harpers Ferry. It was an attempt for the abolitionist, John Brown, to start a slave revolt. he seized an arsenal to arm the slaves in Harpers Ferry Virginia. President Lincoln was elected in 1860 receiving only 40% of the popular vote. with Lincoln's inauguration the south declared secession. The main issue of this election was slavery. Secession of South Carolina
South Carolina was the first state to succeed from the Union. it fired the first shots of the Civil War with bombardment of Fort Sumter. The battle of Antietam was fought near SHarpsburg Maryland and was inconclusive. there were 75,000 Union troops and 38,000 Confederate Troops. Siege of Vicksburg
Vicksburg Misssissippi was the last Major stronghold of the Confederates. The Union pushed the Confederates to this stronghold and besieged it resulting in a Union victory. The battle of Gettysburg Pennsylvania was a 3 day battle that resulted in a major Union victory. The Union was lead by general Meade while the Confederates were led by Robert E. Appomattox Court House
The Battle of Appomattox Court House in Virginia was the final in the Civil War. Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant resulting in the ultimate victory of the Union over the Confederacy. Robert E.
