    Christopher Columbus

    Christopher Columbus landed on San Salvador, this was the first discovery of the new world.
  • New France (Quebec)

    France sent Champlian to estblish a colony in New France, While there he allied with the Montagnaist and Algoquins helping them defeat thier enemies.
  • Slavery

    The first slaves arrived in America. This would have a huge impact of the American economy. Allowed plantation owners to grow and sell more crops, become more profitable, and have to do less work.
  • Thanksgiving

    Thanksgiving
    The first Thanksgiving. Symbolized an alliance between the Puritan and the Indians.
  • A city upon a hill

    Puritans organized the Massahusetts Bay company and moved 400 colonists to Salem, MA. Had 15000 by 1642
  • Pequot War

    War between New England and Pequot Indians. NE had little resistance because 90% of the Natives had died due to diseas. The remaining indians sold thier land to NE.
  • Voting

    55% of men in the colonies could vote but only 30% in England. Caused people to consider going to the colonies.
  • Maryland toleration Act

    It said that Maryland was going to be religously tolerant. This was unheard of because most states were Puritain.
  • Half-way Covenant

    A compromise permitting the children of baptized adults, even non saints, to recieve baptism. Was a sign of the NE way weakening. Important because the churches population was diminishing,
  • KIng Philip's War

    Indians resistance against settlers led by Metacom. The Indians failed horribly and Metacom was beheaded. Important because it gave the settlers the rest of the India land.
  • Glorious Revolution

    Glorious Revolution
    Created limited monarchy, must summon Parliment annually, sign all its bills, and respect traditoinal civil liberties. William and Mary allowed colonies to reassert control over local affairs.
  • British Mercantilism

    The British passed the Navagaion Acts and the Molasses Act. These acts taxed the colonies even more and made the colonist very angry.
  • English and Spanish War

    England and Spain went to war. British attacked Florida and Cartagena. Led to the Treaty of Aix- la- chapelle, Louisburg for British outpost in India
  • End of the Seven Years War

    End of the Seven Years War
    Treaty of Paris 1763. The treaty gave all land east of the Mississippi river, execpt New Orleans to US. Spain gave Florida to Brtain.
  • Townshed Duties

    Also called the Revenue Act, it taxed glass, paint, lead, paper and tea from England. The colonists saw throught it, that it was to make money for treasury, like this Stamp Act and this angered them.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Killing of Bostonians by British soldiers. After this happened tensions boiled over, leading to the Revolutionary War.
  • France allied with US

    After the Battle of Saratoga the Frence thought the US could win the war so they allied with them. Spain also allied with the US because they were allies with France. This led to the US winning the Revolutionary War.
  • National Justice and Bill of Rights

    National Justice and Bill of Rights
    The Judiciary act established each state a federal district court that operated according to local prodecures, but Supreme Court had jurisdiction. Bill of Rights written by James Madison out of the fear of a tyranny.
  • Whiskey Rebellion

    Young Republics first serious crisis. Hamilton put excise tax on domestically made whiskey to try and help pay the nation debt.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Treaty to end the War of 1812. The treaty made things status quo ante bellum, the state of things before the war. The US neither gained nor lost territory.
  • Missouri Compromise

    This was a set of Congressional agreements. At this time there were 11 free and 11 slave states, and Missouri would upset the balance. This caused for Maine to become a free state and Missouri would be a slave state.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    Was the US' foriegn policy. Us was to abstain from European wars, US continents werent subjects to further colonization by Europeans, the US would construe any attempt at European colonization of the New World as an "unfriendly act". This prevented Holy Alliance from intervening in South America.
  • Panic of 1837

    A severe depression while Van Buren was in office. The cause was too many banks giving out bank notes and once prices tumbled the banks suspended specie payments.

    Harrison had a clear victory by using the log cabin campaign. This was the first campaign the smeared the other canidates, leading to the politics that we have today.
