The Boston Massacre was the fight between the colonists and the British soldiers. The colonists were antagonizing the soldiers and a fight broke out between them. Both sides blamed the other for the starting of the fight, but in the end, the British soldiers just decided to back off on their "protection"/"guarding". -

The Battle of Saratoga was the battle that ultimately decided on whether or not the French would help the colonists in their war against Britain. Once the battle was won, the French were impressed, and thereupon joined the colonist's side of the war.
