    Appollo Missions

    Appollo Mission 1961-1975
  • Appollo 1

    Appollo 1
The mission was to be the first crewed flight of Apollo. Astronauts lost their lives when a fire swept through the command module. The exhaustive investigation of the fire and extensive reworking of the Apollo command modules postponed crewed launches until NASA officials cleared them for flight.
  • Apollo 7

    Apollo 7
Demonstrate command and service module, or CSM, and crew performance; demonstrate crew, space vehicle and mission support facilities performance during a crewed CSM mission. Apollo 7 accomplished what it set out to do, qualifying the command and service module, and clearing the way for the proposed lunar orbit mission to follow. Its activities were of national interest. https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/missions/apollo7.html
  • Appollo 8

    Appollo 8
The mission included a coordinated performance of the crew, the command and service module. The mission also was to demonstrate translunar injection. All primary mission objectives and detailed test objectives were achieved. All launch vehicle and spacecraft systems performed according to plan. Engineering accomplishments included use of the ground network with onboard navigational techniques https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/missions/apollo8.html
  • Apollo 9

    Apollo 9
The primary objective of Apollo 9 was an Earth-orbital engineering test of the first crewed lunar module. All prime mission objectives were met. All major spacecraft systems were successfully demonstrated. The few off-nominal conditions that developed did not affect achievement of the major goals. https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/missions/apollo9.html
  • Appollo 10

    Appollo 10
The Apollo mission was to do a crewed lunar landing. Objectives included a scheduled eight-hour lunar orbit of the separated lunar module. Pertinent data to be gathered in this landing rehearsal dealt with the lunar potential, to refine the Earth-based crewed spaceflight techniques. All mission objectives were achieved.

  • Appollo 11

    Appollo 11
Apollo 11 was to perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth. Additional flight objectives included scientific exploration by the lunar module, deployment of a television camera to transmit signals to Earth; a During the exploration, the two astronauts were to gather samples of lunar-surface materials for return to Earth. This was to be the last Apollo mission to fly a "free-return" trajectory, This was successful.

  • Appollo 12

    Appollo 12
Apollo 12 was the sixth manned flight in the United States Apollo program and the second to land on the Moon. They performed just over one day and seven hours of lunar surface activity while Command Module Pilot Richard F. Gordon remained in lunar orbit.
Unlike the first landing on Apollo 11, they achieved a precise landing at their expected location. They carried the first color television camera to the lunar surface on an Apollo flight. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_12
  • Appollo 13

    Appollo 13
Launch April 11, 1970. An explosion on board forced Apollo 13 to circle the moon without landing. Apollo 13 was to be the third mission to land on the Moon. An explosion in one of the oxygen tanks crippled the spacecraft during flight and the crew were forced to orbit the Moon and return to the Earth without landing. The flight was not successful. Improve quality of pictures of the moon.

  • Appollo 14

    Appollo 14
Apollo 14 was the eighth manned mission in the United States Apollo program, and the third to land on the Moon. The primary objectives of this mission were to explore the Fra Mauro region Jan. 31 4:03 p.m. Some difficulties were experienced in docking with the lunar module https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/missions/apollo14.html
  • Appollo 15

    Appollo 15
July 26, 1971; 9:34:00 a.m. The mission objectives were to explore the Hadley-Apennine region, another major mission objective involved the launching of a Particles and Fields. A minor problem early in the mission involving a short circuit in a service propulsion engine but successfully cleared through revised procedures for the lunar orbit insertion. https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/missions/apollo15.html
  • Appollo 16

    Appollo 16
Three primary objectives were to inspect, survey, and sample materials and surface features at a selected landing site, emplace and activate surface experiments; and conduct in-flight experiments and photographic tasks from lunar orbit. The orbital shaping maneuver was deleted, and it was ejected into a highly elliptical orbit, cutting its lifetime from one year to about one month. https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/apollo/missions/apollo16.html
  • Appollo 17

    Appollo 17
The mission included, geological surveying and sampling of materials and surface features in a pre-selected area, deploying and activating surface experiments; and conducting in-flight experiments and photographic tasks.Apollo 17 hosted the first scientist-astronaut to land on moon. Astronauts gathered 110.4 kilograms, or 243 pounds, of material.
