    The Tet offensive was the ultimate turning point that occurred on Jan. 30, 1968 - Sept. 23, 1968. It was a full scale invasion of SV by NV and Vietcong. The US strategy ended up failing so Johnson then announced that he was halting the bombing raids. He was looking for an end to the conflict so he decides to not run for reelection. He then admits that his policy in Vietnam has failed. So then when Nixon gets elected in 1968 & he said that he had a “secret plan” to get the people out of Vietnam.

    The activists felt that the demands were ignored. Peacefulness turned into violence. The police arrested the protesters. Students were on college campus forcing schools to cancel classes, roads were blocked, ROTC buildings were burned. National guard and police clashed in August 1968. Besides the growth of the anti-Movement. Their was a silent majority, of Americans supporting Vietnam, many admit there was a mistakes. When Richard Nixon was inaugurated in January 1969, nation was divided.

    The Kent Massacre
    The Kent State Massacre happened on May 4th, 1970 because the students of K.S.U decided to start a riot in a protest for peace. They began burning down the ROTC building located on the campus & destroying the local property. There was so much high tension b/w the Nat’l Guards and the students that things got violent really fast and four students ended up dead and several other were badly injured. This violent act was now known as the kent State Massacre.

    The 26th Amendment was passed by Congress on March 23, 1971 and it was ratified on July 1st,1971.The 26th amendment granted suffrage to 18-year olds in 1971 because they felt like they shouldn’t be drafted, if they can’t even vote for their own rights.
