The 13th Amendment was approved and abolished slavery in the U.S. and provides that neither slavery nor involuntary slavery servitude, except as a punishment or crime. -

Mississippi enacts first black code
When this happened people saw that this act was proved to be harsh and vindictive. This code pushed black people even farther from having freedom. This was mainly not letting blacks have the ability to vote and if they didn't have a job they were to get arrested. -
Johnson declares reconstruction complete
