    First college founded, known as Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco, also the college of San Juan de Letrán and Santa María de Todos los Santos were founded.

    The Royal Pontifical University

    The Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico was established, in which the Faculty of Arts was located, as preparatory educational institutions for the existing bachelor's degrees.
  • Escuela Nacional Preparatoria (ENP)

    The National Preparatory School (ENP) was created, considered a foundation for higher education. The study plans were organized with the purpose of covering the general culture subjects that prepared future professionals for their entry into higher education schools.

    Post- Revolutionary Period

  • Bachilleratos Tecnológicos

    In 1969, the Technological, Agricultural, Industrial and Maritime Baccalaureate Centers were created. With these options, the two major educational streams that remain to this day were created: the technological baccalaureate and the general baccalaureate.
  • New Step to the Colleges of Bachillerato

    In 1973, the high school level was redefined with the creation of the College of Bachilleres. Its main goal was to provide general training for graduates, preparing them for higher education and productive work. The three-year curriculum included mandatory basic and specific training, plus an optional extracurricular area. The program served both as job training and preparation for further education.
  • Meetings of Upper Secondary Education

    In Querétaro, and a year later in Guanajuato, some National Meetings of Directors of Upper Secondary Education were held with the intention of formalizing a common core proposal, tending to establish a basic core of identity for high school.
    Creation of the National Council of Technological Education System (COSNET) and a common core for technological upper secondary education was established, which was implemented from 1981.
  • Creation of CONALEP

    In 1979, the National College of Professional Technical Education (CONALEP) was created, which strengthened education with terminal careers, oriented to regional contexts.
  • Integration of the "Common Core"

    Secretarial Agreement number 71 was published, which indicates the essential purpose of high school and the duration and integration of the "common core" of the study plan.
  • "New Curriculum"

    SEP issued Secretarial Agreement number 91, which authorized the International Baccalaureate curriculum, and in 1991, it issued Secretarial Agreement number 159, by which the Pedagogical Baccalaureate Centers changed their name to Baccalaureate Study Centers (CEB).
  • Open High School (Preparatoria Abierta)

    In November 1993, the Open Systems Directorate was incorporated into the then-named Upper Secondary Education Unit, and the Open High School service was integrated, which operates in all states of the republic and serves hundreds of thousands of students and is also one of the services that the General Directorate of High School continues to provide.
