    In 1773 Captain Cook and his crew are the first to cross the Antarctic Circle.
  • South Georgia's Sealing Industry

    The sealing industry started in South Georgia in this year while the Europeans were at war. There were mostly Americans and English people that worked there. (ingnore the date and month please.)
  • Macquarie Island

    Australian sealer, Frederick Hasselborough discovered Macquarie Island while searching for new sealing grounds.
  • Magnetic South Pole

    Douglas Mawson, Edgeworth David and Alistair McKay reach the South Magnetic Pole.
  • Roald Amundsen's Victory

    Roald Amundsen and four other team members reach the South Pole because Amundsen found a new pass ( Axel Heiberg Glacier) that took him much less time than Scott.
  • Robert Falcon Scott's Loss

    Scott and three other team members reach the Pole, only to see a Norwegian flag and some letters to him and his team. On the way back they all die in their tent, only to be discovered in November.
  • Scott's Northen Party

    Scott's Northern Party give up hope of the Terra Nova arriving to pick them up before winter. The six men had to dig a cave out of a snow bank where they had to live for six months, trying to survive on penguin and seal meat.
  • Douglas Mawson

    Mawson had to cross King George the fifth land back to his base at Commonwealth bay. Unfortunately his two team members have died, but he makes it back safely.
  • Shackleton's Struggle

    Ernest Shackleton was planning to cross the continent but that couldn't happen because his ship, the Endurance was crushed in pack ice after being stuck in there for about nine months. The 28 men had to stay on the ice for 5 months until an opening in the ice allows them to sail to South Georgia to the closest whaling station.
  • Shackleton's Voyage to South Georgia

    Shackleton and five other men leave Elephant Island and in 15 days they reached the opposite side of South Georgia, so they had to trek across the harsh terrain to the other side.
  • Shackleton's Rescue

    Finally, Shackleton and the five others that left with him reach Elephant Island on one of the sealer's ships, Yelcho and save the 22 others.
  • Shackleton's Death

    Aboard the Quest, Shackleton dies of a heart attack at the age of 48. He was later buried at South Georgia Island.
  • First Plane Flight

    After a ten hour flight Richard .E. Byrd and three others became the first people to fly over Antarctica. Their base was at the Bay of Whales.
