2009 My First Email
I made my very first email account in 2009 during my freshman year of high school. I made it so that I could sign up for Facebook even though my mom said I couldn't have a Facebook until I was 16. When my mom found out I made a Facebook account without her permission, I had to delete both the Facebook and email accounts. Even though this email account was short-lived, it was still a significant moment in my technological timeline. Photo courtesy of Ionos -
November 2010 My (Second) Facebook
In November of 2010, I made my first ever social media account (that I was able to keep). With my mother's permission, I made a Facebook profile to keep in touch with classmates while out of school. This is the first time I was able to instant message my friends at home and not have my parents overhearing my conversations. Photo courtesy of UK Safer Internet Centre -
October 2012 Wifi in Rural WV
In October of 2012, after years of pleading with my parents, our family finally installed high speed Internet on our farm. Even though we were only 15 minutes outside of town, it took (what felt like) forever to finally get Wifi at our home. I could finally use the Internet without worrying about my mom picking up the phone and interrupting my surfing of the 'Net! -
August 2013 On My Own For the First Time
In August of 2013, I left my hometown to go to college at Marshall University in Huntington. Before I left, I bought my very first cell phone to make sure I could keep in touch with my family. I bought an iPhone 4S with money I received as gifts for graduating high school. This was a significant point in my technology timeline because it was the first time I had access to a cell phone and could communicate regularly with the people in my life. 2018 Technology in Teaching
I got my first ever teaching position in 2018 and along with that huge accomplishment, I now had to contend with all of this new technology I was unfamiliar with like MacBooks and AppleTVs. I had never used a MacBook or an AppleTV before teaching so I had to quickly become competent in using both. Now I can't imagine teaching without using either device!
