Anna's Technology Story

  • Speak & Spell

    Speak & Spell
This was the the year I got my first handheld electronic device with a visual display. I absolutely loved playing this game. I struggled with spelling and this was a fun and educational way to improve my spelling skills. Not too long after, my parents purchased the Speak & Math (debuted 1980) to help me with my math skills. I actually still have these two devices and they still work!

  • 1st Computer

    1st Computer
This was the year my small private school began introducing computers to students. I learned basic programming. I also remember in my 9th grade history class, going to the computer lab and playing "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago". I found this game challenging and fun. I remember feeling like a detective but also learning about world geography.

  • Email Experience

In August of 1997, I had my first email exchange. I was a freshman in college and up to that point, had only taken minimal computer classes which mostly focused on programming. I remember being so excited to enter this new "digital" world. I think my first email was correspondence with a professor on campus.

    Promethean Board
In the fall of 2010, I received a Promethean board in my classroom. I was ecstatic! When I began teaching in 2001, I had a chalkboard which was quickly upgraded to a whiteboard with expo markers. I also had an overhead projector, which I used constantly to display maps, graphic organizers etc. Getting a Promethean Board, enhanced my ability to engage my students and opened an entire world of teaching resources available with just one click.

  • Chromebooks

This was the year the district I teach for became a chromebook district. All freshman, received their own chromebook to use all four years of high school. Unfortunately, because I taught middle school students, we only received chromebook carts at our school. The chromebook allows students unlimited access to technology and google classroom which has completely changed the world of education. Who needs paper copies when you can create an assignment and post it in your google classroom.
