    Thaumatrope
    It was a toy made in the 19th century. It's comprised of a disk with and image on each side, held together by two strings on each end. As the strings are spun the images will merge.
  • Phénakisticope

    It's made of two discs held together by the center point. The first disc has slots around the edge, and the second disk has an action happening in the form of still pictures, drawn around the disc in circles. The discs spin together in the same direction. When you look through the slots in the first disc, the pictures on the second appear to move.
  • Zoetrope

    Zoetrope
    A drum with an open top, supported by its central axis. Strips of paper with hand-drawn images are applied to the inner bottom of the drum. Positioned above each image is an equally cut slot. Then the drum is spun at a fast rate to create the illusion of motion.
  • Flip Book

    Flip Book
    Invented by John Barnes Linnett under the name "kineograph." A series of repeatedly drawn pictures with slight variations on each new page. Each change causes the pictures action to become smoother and more pronounced. To make it look like the images move, you must hold down the open edge of the book and quickly release each page one after the other.

    French animated film made by Emile Cohl. Its on of the earliest examples of hand-drawn animation. Considered the first all animated cartoon by film historians.

    He's a cartoon cat designed in the silent film era. Created by Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer in 1919. He was the most popular character before "Mickey Mouse" came on to the scene.

    Created in the Harman And Ising Era. A series that competed with the Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts. The first Looney Tunes short was Sinkin' in the bathtub.
