In Chapter 1 of Animal Farm, Old Major calls a meeting with the animals, where he discusses the injustices of Manor Farm. He says the animals work, but Mr. Jones keeps the money. Mr. Jones tries to take Animal Farm back, similar to when the White Russians fought the Russian Soviet Republic to try and take Czar Nicholas II's power back. -
Rebellion = October Revolution
After being neglected for too long, the animals of Manor Farm band together, led by Napoleon and Snowball, and storm Mr. Jones's house. The Russian people, led by Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin, overthrew Czar Nicholas II in the 1917 October Revolution. -
Mollie Leaves = Bourgeoisie Leaves
Mollie, a horse, left Animal Farm because she enjoyed being cared for by the humans. In Russia, the bourgeoisie leaves because they aren't being supported by the government anymore. -
Manor Farm --> Animal Farm = Russia --> Russia Soviet Republic
After writing down the seven commandments, Snowball changes the name from Manor Farm to Animal Farm. This action is comparable to Russia's name change. -
Napoleon assumes leadership = Stalin's election
Stalin was elected after Lenin died in 1924, and Napoleon becomes the self-proclaimed leader of Animal Farm -
Snowball driven out = Trotsky's exile
With the help of nine dogs, Napoleon drives out Snowball from Animal Farm. Now, Napoleon has no competition and can be the only leader. Similar to Snowball, Trotsky was exiled by Stalin. Then, Stalin rose to be the singular power. -
Chaning history
Napoleon and Stalin manipulate history so they look like heroes. Napoleon alters the commandments and blames everything on Snowball. -
Windmill = Five year plan
Napoleon "takes" Snowball's windmill idea and commences construction on the windmill. This is similar to when Stalin started his economic five-year plan. -
Purge
Napoleon begins to blame any shortcomings on Snowball. He kills any of Snowball's supporters. Stalin begins purging Russia of a lot of people. Animal Farm starts enforcing state control. -
Famine
Both Animal Farm and the Russian Soviet Republic suffered from famine, and many died from lack of food because of their leaders. -
Card Games = Alliances
After many years pass, Napoleon invites farms to play cards. He is praised for his work on the farm, and they seem like friends, but there is an argument over cheating. Russia makes an alliance with Canada and the U.S., but it falls through by the beginning of the Cold War. -
Timber sale = Non-Agression Pact
Napoleon sold timber to Frederick's neighboring farm, but he was scammed, and Frederick invaded Animal Farm and destroyed the windmill. This is similar to Stalin, who made a non-war pact with Hitler, but the deal was broken when Hilter invaded the western border.
