Animal Farm - Final Project

  • Old Major's speech/Vladimir Lenin's speech

    Old Major's speech/Vladimir Lenin's speech
At the beginning of the book, a white boar named Old Major calls all of the animals into the barn to make a speech. In his speech, he talked about how the animals need to rebel against the humans or Mr. Jones. Vladimir Lenin's speech (1919) talked about how the Russian people needed to overthrow the Tsar. In both speeches, the speaker wants to rebel against their enemy so that they can rule their territory. Both speakers say that they can help lead the battle so they can get their freedom.
  • The rebellion/The February Revolution

    The rebellion/The February Revolution
The rebellion was when the animals attacked Mr. Jones and gained control of the farm. The animals started to kick him, and they chased him off the farm. The February Revolution (1917) was when the Russians overthrew the Tsar. Protests started about food shortages and they soon escalated. The military joined in causing the Tsar to have no more authority and step down. Both the animals and the Russians got what they wanted and were able to start their own lifestyle.
  • Mr. Jones and the other farmers fight back/Tsar seeking help from other European powers.

Mr. Jones and the other farmers fight back/Tsar seeking help from other European powers.
After the rebellion, Mr. Jones went and got some of his other farmer friends to fight back against the animals. This battle was known as the Battle of the Cowshed. After the Tsar stepped down from power, he went and asked other European powers for help. The nations helped the Tsar just like how Mr. Jone's friends helped him in the battle.
  • Napoleon v. Snowball/Stalin v. Leon Trotsky

    Napoleon v. Snowball/Stalin v. Leon Trotsky
After the Battle of the Cowshed, Napoleon and Snowball started to have disagreements and slowly started to become enemies. When discussing whether or not to build the windmill, Snowball did and Napoleon didn't and urinated on the plans. After the Tsar stepped down from power (1920), Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky started to disagree on certain topics. This caused conflict between the two and they also started to become enemies. Both disagreed on a certain topic and decided to become enemies.
  • Napoleon taking power/Bolsheviks taking power in the October Revolution

Napoleon taking power/Bolsheviks taking power in the October Revolution
After having a meeting to discuss whether or not to build the windmill, Napoleon ordered his "army" of dogs to chase Snowball off the farm. Snowball was never seen again. In 1917, the Bolsheviks used excessive power to take over the power in Russia which made the Soviet power take over. Both leaders "got rid of" their enemy which made them become a leader and take over. This came off as a scare to the public and made people question what was happening.
  • Animals break seven commandments/Slatin breaking ideals of russian revolution

Animals break seven commandments/Slatin breaking ideals of russian revolution
The animals start to break the seven commandments that were set up by Napoleon, Snowball, and Squealer which were a part of animalism. The first rule that was broken was "No animal shall sleep in a bed." This rule was broken by the pigs. Stalin created the ideals of the Russian Revolution to have a better society, but he ended up breaking all of them. Some rules he broke were equality before the law, freedom of speech, and the right of unions to organize and strike.
  • Napoleon reduces animals' rations/Stalin reduces living standards and food availability

Napoleon reduces animals' rations/Stalin reduces living standards and food availability
Napoleon announces to all the animals that he is going to reduce the animal's ration of food. This causes many animals to get upset. They had no choice but to follow Napoleon's order. Stalin wanted people to work because it was a part of his plan, but people ate the food faster causing a shortage of food to the people. This slowed the process of Stalin's industrialization. People also did not have places to live causing people to live on the streets. This caused widespread chaos for citizens.
  • Napoleon's executions/Stalin's executions

    Napoleon's executions/Stalin's executions
Napoleon "discovered" that Snowball came to the farm and destroyed the windmill. He then knew that there was someone working for Snowball and whoever it was needed to confess. Many animals went up to Napoleon and told him all the wrongdoings they did. Only a few animals were still alive after this. He ordered his dogs to kill them. Stalin ordered anyone who was a political opponent and anyone who posed a threat to the Soviets. Stalin ended up killing millions of people for their actions.
