Election of 1824
The Election of 1824 was between Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams, the son of a former president (John Adams.) On February 9, 1825, John Quincy Adams was elected president. Jackson was outraged and called this a "Corrupt Bargain", believing that Adams and Clay had worked a plan out to make John Quincy Adams president.Nonetheless, Jackson would get his revenge later on in the Election of 1828. -
Election of 1828
The Election of 1828 was between Andrew Jackson and John Q Adams. (once again!) Jackson won due to more common vote- the people wanted Jackson much more than Adams. -
Indian Removal Act
Georgia began moving Native America west. The Indian Removal Act moved Native Americans west of Mississippi River to Indian territory. Some Native American groups resisted- Chief Osceola of the Seminoles in Florida led his people against the US government known as ¨Seminole Wars.¨ -
Worcester v. Ga
Georgia began moving Native Americans west. The Supreme Court got involved and made a case known as Worcester v. Georgia. This maintained that Indians had a right to remain in Georgia. -
Bank War
The National bank was created by Alexander Hamilton, to regulate economic policies. Jackson thought the bank was too powerful and feared corruption. The president of the bank was Nicholas Biddle and Jackson was against the bank. Eventually, in the end, Jackson vetoed the bank when its charter was up for renewal, ending the existence of the bank. -
Nullification Crisis
The Nullification Crisis was an effect of the Tariff of 1828. The Tariff of 1828 was designed to help protect US industry by increasing tariffs on goods from Europe. However, the tariff hurt Southern planters because they relied on trade with Europe. Eventually, Jackson passed a bill lowering the tariff for the South but they did have to obey the tariff.
