  • Election of 1824

    Election of 1824
    Andrew Jackson, and John Quincy Adams were both running for preisdent. Jphn Q. Adams representing the Whig party. Andrew Jackson, representing the Democratic Republican Party. This election was called the Corrupt Bargain, because Clay dropped out and Adams met with Clay, and Clay convinced the House of Representatives to make Adams the president. Henry Clay was the speaker of the House of Representatives, so he had a lot of influence of the presidential election. John Q. Adams became president.
  • Election of 1828

    Election of 1828
    The Election of 1828 included John Q. Adams, Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, and William Crawford. During this time period the Democrat party formed. Andrew Jackson had most support from the Southern States because they believed in state rights. John C. Calhoun switched from John Quincy Adams side to Jackson's side because he also believed in states' rights. Andrew Jackson had 38,221 more votes than John Q. Adams. Therefore Andrew Jackson won the election leading to the Age of Jackson Era.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    Americans wanted more land that the Native Americans were occupying, so Andrew Jackson decided to make the Indian removal act which forced all native americans to move west of the Missisispi river. Americans were okay with this because they thought this land was a wasteland. In 1834, Congress established the Indian territory. Most Native Americans felt forced to move and sell the land, and the Cherokee tribe refused to move.
  • Worcester v. Georgia

    Worcester v. Georgia
    The Cherokees refused to follow the Indian Removal Act because they flet they were being forced out. Georgia did not like the fact that the Cherokees were recognized as a separate nation. Georgia continued to pressure the Cherokee Indians, so they took it to the supreme court. The ruling that John Marshall, the chief justice gave was that Georgia had no right to interfere with the Cherokee. Andrew Jackson overrided his ruling and forced the Native americans to leave. (Trail of Tears).
  • Nullification Crisis

    Nullification Crisis
    The Nullification Crisis began because of the tariff of 1828, which was a protective tariff that was designed to protect U.S. industry by increasing tariffs on goods from Europe.The Southereners called it the tariff of "Abominations" because they hated the taxes so much, because now they had to pay for goods going into Europe. South Carolina declared the tariff illegal and threatened to secede. Andrew Jackson had few options but decided to ask Henry Clay,and he made the tariff lower.
  • Bank War

    Bank War
    Andrew Jackson didn't have strong feelings for the recharter of the national bank because he believed it gave too much power to the federal government, and did not support states' rights. Andrew Jackson claimed, "I will kill it." That is exactly what he did when he was re elected in the election of 1832. As president he claimed the bank to be unconstitutional and vetoed/ got rid of the bank. This eventually led to the Panic of 1837, when there was an economic panic, in which most banks failed.
