    The Battle of New Orleans
    General Andrew Jackson was in charge of the defense of New Orleans. Vice Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane fleet attacked with 8,000 to 9,000 men off of Lake Borgne. Working crazily and unprepaired, Jacson assembled 4,000 men to fight. Cochrane sent naval forces to sweep American boats and attacked forces on the Lake, leaving it open. Jackson's army created a four mile line along the Rodriguez Canal, earning the name, "Jackson's Line".

Jackson negotiated nine out of eleven treaties. Five Indian nations did what no one has ever done. They took them to court. They lost the court case because Georgia's rules, they went to the Suoreme Court and established a law that Jackson refused to follow. Jackson forced them to leave.

    John Quincy Adams of the Whig party wins the election and becomes president. However, this was considered by many, mostly Jackson, as the "Corrupt Bargain" because since nobody won the electoral votes, the election was taken to the House of Representatives. The decision was most influenced by Henry Clay, the man who had gotten the least votes and was not fond of Jackson. Jackson and many others believed he had worked secretly with Adams to get him the title of Mr. President.

Jackson strongly disliked the Bank because he felt it had far too much power, and he vowed he would "kill it". Eventually, when the Bank's charter was up, Jackson vetoed the Bank.

    By this time, American expansion and settlement was rapid, and the Native American land was taking up a lot of possible room, especially in GA. Sam Worcester, a Virginian minister, had gone on a mission trip to Cherokee lands in Georgia to settle some of the stress, but was arrested for associating with them. However, when this issue of Indians getting threatened out of their homelands reached the Supreme Court, it was pronounced unconstitutional, and Worcester was released.
