Van Buren helped with Jackson's victory by reviving the Jeffersonian partnership to promise a return of strong states and weak federal goverment that did not interfere with slavery. -

Wanting American Indians Removed
In the south Jackson captured 80 precent of the votes. these voters expected Jackson to remvoe the 60,000 American Indians living in the region. Many American Indians remained in the south, they even adapted to white American culture. -

American Indian removal act of 1830 This act wnted to negotiate with American Indians to sell their land in the South for new land in the West. -
Worcester v. Georgia
more in depth John Marshall wanted to help the American Indians that were being forced to leave their lands. The court agreed that this act was unconstitutional because the Federal goverment had treaties that protected the American Indians -
Cherokee Agrement

Democratic Changes
With the new democratic changes Jeferson rewarded democrats by giving them political jobs. While Adams was in office he only had about 12 political officials. -
Second Seminole War
Second Seminole WarThe Seminoles were ready to fight the U.S. troops though they were going against the Treaty of Payne's Landing, which required them to leave after thre years of signing in May 1832. After fighting a war between 1835 and 1842, the Seminoles lost and were forced out of Florida by American soldiers. -
Refusal To Leave
Some American Indians refused to leave the South and recieved numerous acts of violence. Because of this, U.S. troops came in and compeled the Creeks fom the South. -
Trail of Tears
When U.S. soldiers forced 16,000 Cherokees to walk from their homes to Oklahoma from the Southeast, nearly 4,000 died of diseases on the trek.
