The Election of 1824 was an election between Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams, William H. Crawford, and Henry Clay. Andrew Jackson won by a landslide with 153, 544 votes and 99 electoral votes. -

When the Tariff of 1828 was placed and negatively affected the southern colonies that relied on trade, South Carolina threatened to secede from the country. These events led to the Compromise Tariff of 1833 to fix the issue. -
