    In 1832, Cherokee claimed that they were an "independent nation" protected by treaty. The Cherokee asked the Supreme Court to uphold the treaty that gave them land. John Marshall agreeded with the Cherokee but Jackson simply ignored the ruling.

    Due to the Indian Removal Act, the Cherokee and the other 4 civilized trides were forced to march 800 miles to Indian Territory.
