Jackson's Birth
This was the day Andrew Jackson was born. He was born in the Waxhaw Settlement in between North and South Carolina. He was born into a recently immigrated Scots-Irish farming family of relatively modest means, near the end of the colonial era. -
Jackson enlists in Revolutionary Army
Jackson, only at the age of thirteen, enlist into the army. All of his immediate family was wiped out during the war. Andrew and his brother Robert were to young to be in the actual army so they fought with the American irregulars. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
This battle ended the Creek War. It resulted in a land cession of 23,000,000 acres to the US. It also made Andrew Jackson a national hero. -
Battle of New Orleans
Jackson became a war hero, which will help him in the next election. It also was the final major battle of the War of 1812. The Americans only had a handful of deaths. It was a series of battles through December 24th - Janurary 8th. -
Election of 1824
Jackson won the Electoral College witn ninety-nine votes. This marked the final collapse of the Republican-Federalist political framework. No party functioned in 1824. -
Election of 1828
The election of 1828 was important as it was a turning point in American politics, with some historians and political scientists arguing that it introduced the prototype for modern American politics and the two-party system that we know today. -
Indian Removal Act
It authorized the authorized the president to grant unsettled land West of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within state borders. Most tribes resisted. Approxiamately 4,000 Cherokees died on their march west, this became known as the Trail of Tears. -
Worcester vs. Georgia
The court ruled that no invidivual states have authority in any American Indian affairs. This made Jackson very mad and this is how the Indian Removal Act came about. -
Bank War
Jackson took down the bank. He won by vetoing the bill to keep the national bank and used examples from people. -
Nullification Crisis
It was created by South Carolina. States didn't want to pay the protective tariffs that Jackson had made. So the states claimed the right to nullify or avoid the tariffs.
