Andrew Jackson was the hero of the war of 1812. He led the Americans to victory in the Battle of New Orleans, the biggest victory for the Americans during the war. Even though the war was over, the news hadn't reached the battlefield and it was America's confidence booster. -
Election of 1824
The election of 1824 was a rough time for Andrew Jackson. He had won the popular vote, but that doesn't determine the president, the electoral votes do, which nobody won. After the election failed, the power went to Congress to decide who won, Henry Clay used his power as Speaker of The House to make John Quincy Adams win, who in turn made him secratary of state. This is now known as the Corrupt Bargain. -
Election of 1828
After the election of 1824, Jackson vowed to get his revenge. In 1828, he got it. He was elected president by a landslide victory over his opponent John uincy Adams. -
The Indian Removal Act
In 1830, Congress passed the Indian Removal act, allowing Andrew Jackson to negotiate with Southern Indian Tribes (mostly in Georgia) to have them migrate into the Great Plains, which weren't actually so great. -
The Bank War
The Bank War was the name of Jackson's campaign to get rid of the Second National Bank of The United States. He told his vice president "I will kill it" because he thought it was too powerful and it was being used by his enemies (Henry Clay) to get him out of office. The Bank asked for its charter to be renewed early, so that he would refuse and lose popularity, he did, but he gained popularity from it.
