Andrew Carnegie was born in 1835 in Scotland to a poor weaver. -
Brought to America
That poor weaver brought his family to America in 1848. -
Left railroad and started own company
In 1865 Carnegie left the railroad and started his own company making railroad bridges from iron -
Started his first steel mill
Eight years later, in 1873 he started his first steel mill. -
Consolidated into Carnegie Steel Company
When this happened he controlled a quarter of American iron and steel production. -
Retired
Two years later in 1901 he retired.
