Rome was founded in 753 BCE by Romulus and Remus (twin sons of the god Mars). The twins were abandoned and raised by she-wolf. Romulus killed Remus and founded the city of Rome

First Etruscan king of Rome
Lucius Tarquinius is the first Etruscan to be crowned king of Rome. Although Rome was not controlled by Etruscan cities, the Etruscan kings expanded the many Roman villages into a city that spanned over 500 square miles.

Rome becomes a republic
Patricians overthrew the last of the Etruscans and created a republic.
Power was held by Senate and consuls, and only Patricians could participate in the government.

The Twelve Tables
The earliest written collection of Roman laws, drawn up by patricians. These twelve codes became the foundation of Roman law. The laws talked about property, crime, family, theft, marriage, and inheritance. They were engraved on tablets of metal and put on display at the Forum in the city of Rome so that everyone could see them.

Since the power struggle, one consul replaced with a plebeian.
Patricians got an extra office in return, creation the urban praetor who also had imperium. The 1-year mandate later replaced priests in civil procedure. -

Hortensian Law
Made all resolutions passed by the Plebeian Council, known as plebiscita, binding on all citizens. It was passed by the dictator Quintus Hortensius in a compromise to bring the plebeians back from their secession to the Janiculum. It was the final result of the long struggle between patricians and plebeians, where the plebeians would periodically secede from the city in protest when they felt they were deprived of their rights. -
