It is also because the Greeks helped the Ionians revolt against the Persians and had marched to Sardis and burned the city. The Persians decided to attack Athens because it had most of it's forces in Marathon. The Greeks were able to defeat the Persians because they were great fighters. -

The Battle of Salamis was a naval battle between Greece and Persia. The battle happened when the Persian Empire tried to capture or conquer Athens but quickly ended when they figured out that they are outnumbered by the Greek empire. -

Thirty Years Peace Between Argos and Sparta Begins
It happened when Argos became more wealthy and powerful. Their empire grew fast under the rule of Pericles. Sparta, on the other hand became jealous of Argos. When Argos and Sparta ended up on different sides over the conflict of the city Corinth, Sparta declared war on Argos. After 10 years of war, Sparta and Argos agreed to a truce. -

Athens Invades Megara
Magara was an ally of Athens. Magara sided against them during the Great Peloponnesian War. During the war, the Athenians captured Nisaea. The Megarians then went to Athens and took advantage of Athens's apparently vulnerability after the disaster at Syracuse and recaptured Nisaea. After the recapture, there was war. At the end, The Athenians defeated Megara. -

The End of the Peloponnesian War
The Peloponnesian War was an ancient Greek fought by Athens and its whole empire against the Peloponnesian League lead by Sparta. The battle ended until 404 BC, and unfortunately, Sparta was victorious and won the Peloponnesian War. The war effected Greek city-states by weakening them for 50 years.
