    Aeschylus
    Aeschylus was the oldest dramatists in Athens. He wrote plays about the Persian wars and created a trilogy called the Oresteia.

    The city state Miletus rebelled against the Persian rulers and they asked the other Greek city states to help overthrow the Persians. Sparta said no but Athens said yes.

    The battle of Thermopylae

    The battle of Thermopylae
    During the Persian wars, the Persians were not done with Greece. The Persians had 100,000 men as well as 600 to 700 ships whereas the Greeks had 10,00 men as well as 200 to 300 ships. The Greeks could no longer hold of the pass so they left 300 men to hold it off for them. In the end, the Greeks had held off the pass for 2 days but all 300 men died in the effort.

    With the help of the Delian League, Athens was able to fund, what is now the golden age of Athens where Athens created some of the worlds best artistic and cultural achievements.

    At the end of the Persian wars, the Greeks feared another invasion so they established the Delian League to protect themselves from such an invasion

    Socrates
    He was one of the most famous philosophers and grew up during the golden age of Athens. Most of what we know of Socrates was written by Plato.Socrates was a philosopher who used the Socratic method. Socrates was killed by being forced to drink hemlock (a kind of poison)for being accused of causing the downfall of Athens.

    The Peloponnesian wars
    Relations between Athens and the Peloponnesian league were not going so well. Finally in 431 the peloponnesians broke out. This war continued for more than 25 years eventually causing Athens downfall.

    Aristotle
    Aristotle was a student of Plato and a well-known philosopher. Aristotle believed that a government was to make the good life for its citizens. He also valued men over women and said that a slave was their slave owners property as a tool was his.

    Alexander the great
    Alexander wanted to take over the Persian empire but it was still very large and he had a very small army but he didn't care and everyone followed him because he was brave and strong. Even though he had a small chance of winning, he won! Alexander took over the entire Persian empire and earned the title Alexander the Great.
