Battle of Saratoga results in the first major American victory.
The Battle of Saratoga was the biggest turning point in the Revolutionary War. On September 19, 1777, in Bemis Heights, New York, British troops came from Canada in the attempt to take over New England and they lost about 600 men. Baron Riedesel came to the rescue with German troops. When a British general led a charge, he was shot. A week later the British surrendered on October 17, 1777, the Americans had won the battle. British forces occupy Philadelphia; Congress relocated to New York.
As 1777 started, congress returned to Philadelphia from Baltimore after Washington’s success against the British. British forces of 15,000 under the command of Gen. Howe set sail down Chesapeake Bay to capture Philadelphia. In the Battle of Brandy Creek Washington’s main army of 10,500 is driven back toward Philadelphia. Causing congress to leave Philadelphia and resettle in Lancaster Pennsylvania. By September 26th 1777 British forces occupy Philadelphia, and congress then relocat to N.Y.

The Congress adopts the Articles of Confederation, giving it sole authority.
On November 15, 1777, Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation. These articles were laws on the conduct in war and foreign policy in a federal government. The rest of the deciding was up to the states. The official signing of the articles was on July 9, 1778, 16 of the individuals who signed the Declaration of Independence. The Articles of Confederation wasn’t as successful as the constitution. W.M.
