Stamp Act
This act placed a tax on all paper products, and required that a stamp must be bought for anything paper. This event marked the beginning of organized opposition towards British rulers. -
Townshend Act
With the Townshend Act all products were given a tax, this caused an increase of costs on everything. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre began with a few drunk men throwing snowballs at British Soliders. The British troops blame it on "accidental fire" but others believe it was arranged and they are charged with murder. -
Boston Tea Party
The Americans dressed up as Indians, broke into three ships, and dumped 45 tons of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
The intolerable left the Boston Port shut down, until the tea lost at the Boston Tea Party was paid for. The colonial goverment was removed, and British offiials were implaced. The governor receieved power to move royal officials trials to other places in order to recieve a "fairer trial". -
Second Contininetal Congress
The elegates met in Philidelphia, new members included: Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock. The Americans were divided some wanted solely independence, others leaned towards compromise with British allowing more colonial rule. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
A battle that occured at Bunker Hill. The British army attacked a total of three times, and succeed on their final attempt. The Americans ran out of ammunition. -
Olive Branch Petition
A document written by the Americans to the English as a final attempt for peace without war. -
Thomas Paine's: Common Sense
It was an important document that expressed both levels of the Revolution. It was written in a simple, direct style so that it could be most easily read. -
Declarartion of Independence
The main author was Thomas Jefferson, his ideas came from the Enlightenment Period. The Declaration clearly states reasons for independence and is divided into four parts.

Battle of Trenton
General George Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night, and the following day attacked the Hessian Army near Trenton. -
Battle of Saratoga
In the battle the British were led by General John Burgoyne, and his plan was to cut the New England colonies away from the others. Americans fought back by tearing down trees and taking down bridges. Colonists win because General Burgoyne retreats. -
Battle of Yorktown
In this batlle, Washington and Layfatte combined forces to face Cornwallis. Cornwallis's group faced many casualities in South Carolina and ended up surrendering. -
Treaty of Paris
The treaty formally ended the Revolutionary War. The British recognized the indepence of the United States of America. It also ends the quatering act.
