    This is a machine that quickly and easily separates cotton fibers from their seeds. This allows a much greater productivity than manual cotton separation. Sectionalism was affected because some states would most likely want to use this, like non slave states, but maybe slave states wouldn't because then they wouldn't have anything for the slaves to do.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    This was the acquisition of the Louisiana territory from France by the United States. It is significant to sectionalism because it nearly doubled the size of the US as a whole and they had to decide whether or not slavery would be allowed in the states.

    This canal is located in New York and part of the east-west cross-state route of the New York State canal. This created new types of transportation for different sections of the USA

    The Missouri Compromise was passed in order to balance power in Congress between slave states and free states. sectionalism was affected by this because it just made the US more divided with slave states and free states.
  • Mexican-American War

    A war fought between the United States and Mexico.This had sectionalism because when the US gained Texas, there was a lot of confusion about what categories to put the land in.
  • Wilmont Proviso

    The Wilmont Proviso proposed an American law to ban slavery in territory acquired from Mexico in the Mexican American War. This could've affected sectionalism of the United States of America because some people may have wanted slavery still.

    The Free Soil Party was a short lived political party in the US active in 1848 and 1852 presidential elections and some state elections. It was dedicated to opposing slavery in newly acquired territories such as Oregon. Sectionalism could've been affected because as said before, some people may have wanted slavery.

    These were a set of laws passed in the midst of fierce wrangling between groups favoring slavery and groups opposing slavery. This compromise affected slavery because it was still between people and states who wanted slavery and people and states who didn't want slavery.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    his act allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves whether to allow slavery or not.This was significant to sectionalism because of the fact that they got to decide whether they wanted slavery not and not everyone was going to agree with the decisions other people made.

    This was a period of violence during the settling of the Kansas territory. Sectionalism was affected by this because it just led to more disagreements upon slavery.
  • Dred Scott vs. Sanford

    Dred Scott vs. Sanford
    This was a landmark decision by the US Supreme Court on US labor law and constitutional law. The decision was only the second time that the Supreme Court had ruled an Act of Congress to be unconstitutional. This affected sectionalism because it was just another disagreement.

    These were a series of debates between Lincoln and Douglas.his related to sectionalism because Abraham Lincoln was a democrat and Stephen Douglas was a Republican therefore they most likely had major and minor disagreements in the debates.

    Abolitionist John Brown led a small group on a raid against a federal armory in Harper's Ferry VA in an attempt to start an armed slave revolt and destroy the slavery institution. Sectionalism was affected because slavery supporters and opposers were arguing.

    American presidential election held on November 6, 1860 in which Republican Abraham Lincoln defeated Southern Democrat John C. Breckenridge. This led to more sectionalism because it is a contrast of beliefs that the two candidates hold.
  • Transcontinental Railroad

    Transcontinental Railroad
    A train route across the United States, finished in 1869. It was the project of two railroad companies: the Union Pacific built from the east, and the Central Pacific built from the west. The two lines met in Utah. This affected sectionalism because it connected two places together.
