  • Lexington

    Lexington
    In Boston, the colonists were warned by Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Samuel Prescott that there were 700 troops planning to attack Concord. The troops ended up arriving at Lexington, Massachusetts first and told the militia to leave their weapons and retreat. The colonists didn't put down their weapons but started to leave but a shot was aimlessly fired and the redcoats began firing at all of the militia. This battle, which started the war, only lasted a short 15 minutes.
  • Concord

    When the British soldiers arrived at Concord, they only found an empty arsenal and started marching back to Boston. The Minutemen took this time to make an organized assemble which ended in a violent battle. The British soldiers were being defeated quickly so they were forced to retreat back to Boston.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    When the British troops were in Boston, General Thomas Gage planned and attacked militiamen on Breed's Hill near Bunker Hill. Gage sent 2400 soldiers up Bunker Hill and was met with many minutemen who started shotting down at them but were forced to retreat. This was the deadliest battle of the war.

    The British soldiers sailed into New York harbor with about 32,000 soldiers along with a few German soldiers they hired. The colonists were forced to retreat this battle and the British seized New York City.
  • Trenton

    Trenton
    In this battle, Washington led 2400 soldiers across the Delaware River during a storm. Then they marched to Trenton, Delaware river, and defeated their opponent in a surprise attack.
  • Philadelphia

    Philadelphia
    After the attack in Trenton General Burgoyne regrouped and captured the American capital which was Philadelphia.
  • Saratoga

    Saratoga
    A British General John Burgoyne was busy and concentrating on keeping Philadelphia so the colonists took this opportunity. They surrounded Burgoyne at Saratoga and forced him to surrender.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge
    Washington and the rest of the army were running out of food and supplies which caused them to struggle to stay alive for the fight in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. They had a surprising amount of endurance because even when more than 2000 soldiers, the survivors stayed.
  • Marquis De Lafayette

    Marquis De Lafayette
    He was a foreign military leader from France who offered to help the colonies with some leadership and advice. He also brought many reinforcements from France and helped command the last years of the war in Virginia.
  • Yorktown

    In this battle, the French and American soldiers surrounded the British on the Yorktown peninsula and began ruthlessly attacking them for days, This finally pushed General Cornwallis to surrender and the Americans officially defeated the British.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    the delegates which included John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin signed the Treaty of Paris which confirmed U.S. independence and set its new boundaries as a new country.
