The British made a rule that all public documents required a stamp. The colonists were not happy with this. -
Boston Tea Party
A new tax on tea angered colonists. Some colonists threw lots of tea overboard British ships. -
Intolerable Acts
This was a set of rules enacted in hopes of bringing citizens to a state of obedience. -
First Continental Congress Meeting
Colonists and leaders met to join in fighting against the new taxes. -
Paul Revere's Ride
"The British are coming!" Paul Revere rode on his horse to alert everyone that the British were on their way to fight. William Dawes and Samuel Prescott accompanied Revere on his famous ride. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
The first shot is fired and begins the Revolutionary War. The Americans win this battle. The British traveled in murky swamps to meet the Americans in Concord. 273 British were injured, while only 95 Americans were injured. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
This is a famous battle. Before this famous battle, George Washington was voted in to lead the Americans in their efforts against the British. -
Battle for New York
The British were determined to win this one. The Americans had declared their independence and thought that the British generals were coming to negotiate a peace treaty. George Washington knew something was a little fishy, so he sent his troops to prepare to fight for New York. This was a British win. This event began August 22, 1776 but the official battle did not begin until 5 days later. -
Washington and Troops Cross the Delaware
George Washington planned a sneak attack on the British, so in the middle of the night, he and his troops crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night. -
Valley Forge
George Washington and his troops spent the winter of 1777 and into early 1778 preparing and training. -
Battles of Saratoga
The British surrender after another loss at Saratoga. This battle lasted from September 1777 to October 1777. -
Battle of Yorktown
British General Cornwallis officially surrenders to the American troops at Yorktown. This is the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War. -
Treaty of Paris
This officially ended the war. America had declared its independence from Britain and began to create their rules and laws for their new colonies.
