  • The Battle of Lexington & Concord

    The Battle of Lexington & Concord
    On April 18, 1775, British troops marched from Boston to Concord to seize their supplies. Paul Revere let everyone know the British were coming. Colonial Military members went to go stop the British. A confrontation in Lexington started the fighting. When they ran into the British, the British army ran away.
  • Siege of Boston

    Siege of Boston
    Colonial military men successfully laid siege to British-held Boston, Massachusetts. The siege included the Battle of Bunker Hill. In July 1775, General George Washington arrived in Boston to take charge of the Continental army. In March 1776, Washington’s men strengthened Dorchester Heights. Boston was indefnsible to the American positions, so the British left the town and became the end of the Siege of Boston.
  • Siege of Fort Ticonderoga

    This was a good point of access to both Canada and the Hudson River Valley. On May 10, 1775, Benedict Arnold joined Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys during the attack on the fort. They captured the British troops while they were sleeping. This gave the Continental Army needed supplies for future battles.

    Battle of Bunker HIll
    British forces landed on the Charlestown Peninsula then went to Breed's Hill. They let the British troops get as close as possible before firing. The Americans kept defeatiing the British troops as they came up the hill. The British attacked a thrid time, when they had enough troops, and outnumbered the Americans so the Americans had to retreat. This was a British victory
  • Battle of Quebec

    Battle of Quebec
    Patriot forces under Colonel Benedict Arnold and General Richard Montgomery attempted to capture Quebec (British city) and won the support of the Americans cause in Canada. The attack failed, and their leader General Montgomery was killed.
  • Battle of Lond Island

    Battle of Lond Island
    The British Army successfully moved against the American Continental Army. The British wanted to seize control of New York, so they isolate New England from the rest of the colonies. Washington could have had to surrender, but he didn't. Because he didn't surrender, him and his troops got to escape and were alive to fight in other battles.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    George Washington' and his army crossed Delaware. On the way, they won two crucial battles. In the Battle of Trenton, Washington defeated a lrge amount of troops, and then withdrawing. A week later he returned to Trenton to lure British forces south, and marched through the night to capture Princeton. This increased the Americans control of New Jersey.
  • Battle of Princetown

    Battle of Princetown
    Cornwallis arrived with his troops in Trenton on January 3rd planning to attack George Washintons troops. Cornwallis knew Washington would escape and sent troops to stop him. When some colonists met up with some British troops, they outnumbered and deafeated them. After the battle, Washington was left with much of New Jersey.
  • Battle of Brandywine

    Battle of Brandywine
    General Sir William Howe and General Charles Cornwallis plan an attack on General George Washington. Sir William Howe and General Charles Cornwallis plan was successful and they defeated George Washington and his troops.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    There we two battles of saratoga and they were a turning point of the American Revolution. General John Burgoyne achieved a small, but costly victory over American forces. Though his troops were weakened, Burgoyne attacked the Americans again, but this time they were defeated and forced to retreat. This was an American victory and convinced the French government to enter the war with Americans, as their ally.

    The American victory in the Battle of Saratoga convinced the French government to recognize the colonist's cause for the war and enter the war as their ally.
  • Capture of Savannah

    Capture of Savannah
    The British outnumbered the Americans. British planned a surprise attack against the Americans, by going through a secret path in the swamp. American General Howe told his troops to withdraw from combat. British Army was attracting enslaved African- Americans that supported the patriots. The British were successful in their capture of Savannah.
  • Siege of Charleston

    Siege of Charleston
    This was a major battle that occured in the Revolutionary war. They shifted their focus to the American Southern colonies. After many weeks of Siege Continental Army Major General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered forces.
  • Battle of Camden

    Battle of Camden
    The Colonists outnumbered the British Army. The American army however didn't do very well, because many of their troops were very sick. The British troops attacked the Americans with bayonets, however the Americans ran because they didn't have these weapons.
  • Battle of King's Mountain

    Battle of King's Mountain
    Britain's Ferguson was defending King's Mountain. The Americans charged the hillside several times. Major Ferguson wasn't going to surrender, so he charged down the mountain and was killed. Then, his men, without a leader, tried to surrender, but these people were shot and killed. This became known as an American victory.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    Battle of Cowpens
    Americans under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan defeated the British troops under Lieutenant Colonel Basastre Tarlrton. American riffles were a key factor in winning this battle. This battle was a major confidence booster for the American troops.
  • Battle of Eutaw Springs

    Under Major General Nathanel Greene, patriots attacked British troops under Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Stewart early in the morning. After a bloody battle, both sides retreated. This was the last major southern battle of the American Revolution.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    This was the most important battle of the Revolutionary war. Washington and his troops surrounded Cornwallis and his men. Eventually, Cornwallis surrendered to Washington. This then ended the war for independence.
  • Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    Battle of Guilford Courthouse
    This was a two hour battle between Britain's Cornwallis and America's Greene. Greene retreated from this battle, but Cornawallis lost 25% of his men. This was a significant loss of British soliders, but a BRitish victory.
