George Washington
June 19th, 1775, George Washington became the first commander of the Continental Army. This event was important because it was difficult to raise an army because not everyone supported the war. This event was important because if the continental army didn't have a leader, there would be no army at all!!!

The battle of Trenton
George Washington went to New Jersey to surprise the Hessians. This was important because the Americans captured about 900 Hessians and gained much needed supplies.

Battles of Saratoga
When Burgoyne's army was battling the American's, his Hessian mercenaries were becoming frightened so they surrendered.The american's then surrounded what was left of Burgoyne's army. The british eventually surrendered. These things that caused Burgoyne to surrender are called the Battles Of Saratoga. It is important because it became the turning point in the war

John Paul Jones
John Paul Jones, a naval hero. He commanded a ship named the Bonhomme Richard. He became famous for taking down the British's ship, the Serapis, He said this very famous quote: "I have not yet began to fight!" The Bonhomme Richard was so full of holes from the Serapis' cannons, the boat sank. The Battle of Camden
Baron de Kalb came from Germany to help the Americans win the war. He became a general for George Washington, and he was also known for his bravery. He participated in the battle of Camden. Sadly, he died from the 11 wounds from the Battle of Camden. This battle is now important because it is the battle Baron de Kalb heroicly died in.

The Battle of Yorktown
George Washington commanded a group of 17,000 troops and marched them to Yorktown, Virginia. There he and his army would meet Lord Cornwallis, who only had about 9,000 troops. The Battle of Yorktown became known as the most important battle in the Revolutionary war.
